From Niseko to Hakodate 🇯🇵
My friend from Niseko brought her friend Ryan, who lives in Niseko, to experience Japanese calligraphy in Hakodate.
Ryan chose the word 「不動」(Fudō), meaning steadfast, unwavering, and unshaken — a state of remaining calm and firm, no matter what happens.
My friend chose 「寿」(Kotobuki), written in the beautiful Seal Script (Tensho) style, symbolizing longevity, happiness, and celebration.
Both of them approached calligraphy with great enthusiasm and a strong desire to improve.
They practiced again and again, patiently refining each brushstroke until they finally created a piece they truly loved.
Calligraphy is not simply about writing a character.
It is a quiet process of connecting with yourself, one brushstroke at a time.

ニセコに住む友人が、アメリカからニセコへ移り住んでいるライアンさんを連れて、書道体験に来てくれました🇺🇸✨
ライアンさんが選んだ言葉は「不動」。
どんな時も揺るがない、動じない心という意味です。
そして友人が選んだのは、篆書体の「寿」。
二人ともとても熱心で、向上心を持って書に向き合ってくれました。
何枚も何枚も練習を重ね、筆の運びや線の表情を確かめながら、最後には「これがいい！」と思える一枚をそれぞれ仕上げることができました。
書道は、ただ漢字を書くのではなく、
自分の心と向き合いながら、一筆一筆を積み重ねていく時間。
二人の素晴らしい集中力と忍耐力に、私も嬉しくなりました‼︎
遠くから函館まで足を運んでくださり、ありがとうございました。
そして、素敵なご縁をつないでくれた友人にも感謝‼︎
