It was a pleasure to welcome a lovely couple from the United States to my calligraphy studio in Hakodate.
They first discovered my calligraphy works at the HAKODATE ART EXHIBITION 旧市街at Tachikawa Banquet and became interested in Japanese calligraphy.
The following day, they came to my atelier to experience calligraphy for themselves.
After practicing, they said:
“It was very difficult, but so much fun!”
They also shared something that really touched me:
“The more you write, the more you begin to see what you still need to improve. It strengthens your mind.”
I was so happy to hear them discover something deeper through calligraphy.
What began with a chance encounter with my artwork at the exhibition became a special cultural experience during their trip to Hakodate.

アメリカから函館へ、書道体験に来てくださったご夫婦🇺🇸🇯🇵
GLAY TERUさん主催のHAKODATE ART EXHIBITION”旧市街”の会場である太刀川バンケットで書の作品を見てくださったことをきっかけに、書道に興味を持ってくださり、翌日アトリエへ体験に来てくださいました。
実際に筆を持って書いてみると、
「とっても難しかった。でも、楽しかった！」
そして、
「書けば書くほど、自分の足りないところがだんだんわかってくる。心が鍛えられるね。」
と話してくださいました。
書道は、ただ文字を書くことだけではなく、
自分と向き合い、心を整え、少しずつ自分を高めていく時間でもあります。
展示会で作品を見てくださったことから、翌日の書道体験へ‼︎
函館での旅の中で、書道を通して日本文化に触れていただけたことを嬉しく思います。
